Splyatgani is a pacific flying squid. One of his mottos is that "Old age and treachery beats youth and skill." On one occasion during the events of Splatoon 1, he gets cornered while out of ink. When the octoling stops to gloat, Splyatgani bashes his assailant across the head with the stock of his old squelcher. His squelcher was manufactured in the same factory Sheldon's family used to work at (whether or not they made this particular weapon is unknown). During the Great Turf War, Splyatgani served as a Senior Sergeant (the Russian rank "stárshiy serzhánt", roughly equivalent to a Staff Sergeant) in the 10th Guards Squelcher Splatoon as a "jet trooper." His unit was trained to squid jump without the aid of a beacon, though accident rates were high. At one point during the conflict, an offensive in which he took part went disastrously wrong. He almost certainly would have fallen to a coordinated counterattack, but fortunately all local Octarian reserves had already been committed
